Matter VR is a virtual reality experimental music making experience, created in collaboration with Walter Lim, Chris Liu, and Thomas Louden as an exploration of new methods of digital interaction. It was selected for public exhibition at the Auckland Aotea Centre in November 2016 as part of Digital Art Live's Emerging Pixels #6 interactive art showcase.

Matter VR

Matter VR places the participant in a surrealistic virtual environment using an Oculus Rift headset, and allows them to interact with the environment to generate music using Leap Motion hand tracking. I oversaw the art direction of the virtual environment which was inspired by the history and visual aesthetic of the vaporwave music movement, creating moodboards and concept sketches. I then modelled the environment for VR in the Unity3D game engine, as well as scripted different objects in the environment to respond to user-generated music. MatterVR was extensively play-tested with audiences at events such as the Creative Technologists' Meetups and the Auckland Game Developers' Meetups.
